Meet the Crew

Chris Lucero

Chris is the District Manager as of April 2024 after resigning from the CSWCD Board. He owns a small ranch in Cuba with cows, horses, and 35 acres of alfalfa, alongside 2 acres of hybrid, high altitude grape vines for the production of wine. Chris has a passion for helping the community and teaching the youth, and continues to innovate and find new creative ways to share ideas and facts about the land. He especially enjoys working with interns and new blood to bolster new projects and educate the public on his goals.

Lily Deshnod

Lily is the Business Manager at the Cuba Soil and Water Conservation District and has proudly helped serve the community for the past 3 years. Her primary role revolves around managing the financial operations in the office, while also assisting in the field to ensure projects run smoothly from start to finish. Her proudest accomplishment has been securing funding for our largest project, the Non-Federal Lands (NFL) Hazardous Fuels Removal Grant, which plays a crucial role in protecting our local landscapes and communities. She enjoys working directly with landowners and community members, helping them navigate programs, and making sure they feel supported every step of the way.

sWCD Internship Program

Cuba SWCD offers a unique internship program that allows students to interact and learn hands on with the environment and the efforts made by us to maintain and help the land.
